The Great Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter at st-johns-portsmouth is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
Liturgy Details
- Service: The ancient feast celebrating the resurrection. Attendees are asked to bring a bell or noisemaker to sound at the proclamation of the resurrection.
- Procession: Begins outdoors at 7:30 PM (sunset) with the lighting of the new fire of Easter, followed by a candlelit procession into the worship space.
- Elements: Liturgy includes salvation history readings, Holy Baptism, renewal of baptismal vows, and the Eucharist.
Reception
- Location: Chisholm Hall immediately following the liturgy.
- Provided: Champagne, non-alcoholic punch, beef tenderloin, shrimp, and wedding cake (symbolizing the church as the bride of Christ).
- Potluck Contribution: Attendees are invited to bring elegant, savory hors d'oeuvres (finger food appetizers) on a beautiful tray to share. Sign-up is available on the "Feast" mission bulletin board (Parish House first floor hallway) or through the Parish Office.
