Giving
Your consecrated giving powers God's work through St. John's Church.
Gifts of any size honor God and make a difference. If you would like to give to St. John's, there are many different ways to contribute. All gifts received are used for our annual operating budget unless designated otherwise. Receipts of contributions are mailed at the end of each year and include all donations regardless of the amount. Constributions to St. John's Episcopal Church are tax deductible.
Ways to Give
Place your check or cash in the offering plate during each weekend service. Use online banking or drop your offering off or mail to the church office – St. John's Church, 424 Washington Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704. You also can use the FaithStreet button below to make a donation now or to set up recurring gifts.
St. John's Endowment Fund
St John’s Episcopal Church Endowment Fund was created to give persons of good will a way to support the future life of Christ at St. John’s Church. Through ministries we cannot now imagine in the decades and centuries to come, gifts to this fund will enable sisters and brothers in Christ to bless our faith community, our neighborhood, and beyond.
This Endowment Fund will equip St John’s Church to fulfill its mission more completely by developing ministries beyond what is possible through our annual operating budget.
Income from St. John’s Endowment Fund is not part of our annual budget. Income generated from the Fund is limited to: grants that grow God’s Kingdom through new ministries, special projects, and supporting evangelistic and human needs; capital improvements to our parish facilities; loans to assist with housing for our rector; and other purposes designated by donors whose future gifts might be included in the Fund.
The Endowment is professionally managed under the supervision of five parishioners appointed by the vestry. As a parish we believe God is calling us to grow this Fund to more adequately meet the needs of our growing congregation well into the next century.
How may I participate?
Bequests – You may specify a dollar amount or a percentage of your assets in your will or make the endowment a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or trust. This is a wonderful opportunity to extend (or take up) a spiritual discipline of tithing; in this case, giving 10% or more of your lifetime assets.
Commemorative Gifts – You may give an unrestricted gift of cash, appreciated securities, or property to commemorate an important event in your life, or simply as an expression of gratitude on some occasion of thanksgiving.
Planned Gifts – These are gifts that provide income for you or a beneficiary during your lifetimes and benefit the church thereafter, or provide yearly income to the church during your lifetime and, afterward, benefit your family or friends (such as Charitable Gift Annuities, Life Income Gifts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, or Gifts of property).
These gifts will keep on giving to the mission and ministry of this parish—forever. Contact us if you would like to participate. No gift is too small!
